»Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge« is an academic journal in, on and from the discipline of architecture, addressing the creation, constitution and transmission of architectural knowledge. It explores methods genuine to the discipline and architectural modes of interdisciplinary methodological adaptions. Processes, procedures and results of knowledge creation and practice are esteemed coequally, with particular attentiveness to the architectural design and epistemologies of aesthetic practice and research. Hans Döllgast’s architectural works of reconstruction and repair have become seminal, resonating with the contemporary prioritisation of reuse at times of climate emergency. Issue 09/2025 reflects on the nature of his relevance today, addressing unexplored questions about his reception and legacy. An international group of architects and architectural historians examine his pedagogy, writings and buildings. The contributors explore what Döllgast shared with contemporary architects, and how this legacy could speak to current challenges. They ask how we can fathom the architectural knowledge – regarding the process, thinking, approach, conception and making – contained in Döllgast’s work.
