There are still fascinating relics of past years in and around Berlin: half-dilapidated factories, swimming pools and hospitals, abandoned airfi elds, closed down power plants, unused military facilities, or deserted villas that look as if they had been left in a hurry by their last residents. The journalist and photographer Ciarán Fahey has explored the most spectacular of these “lost places”, documented their condition in photographs and discovered their tragic tales.
