Couple-related living arrangements have become increasingly plural for decades – also in older age. But what does this change imply for widowhood, separation and divorce in this stage of life? How are cohort-specific norms and gendered inequalities entangled in these transitions? The author addresses these questions with a couple- and ageing-sensitive sociological perspective, combining longitudinal quantitative analyses with qualitative interviews.
