The country of Myanmar and its education system are characterised by a turbulent history and a perception of vocational education as a „second choice“. After several years of democratisation and far-reaching reforms in the vocational education sector, the military took control again at the beginning of 2021. Since then, access to education data and insight into reform efforts has become even more difficult. The country study provides an overview of the Burmese education system and its development. The focus is primarily on the period before 2021, as the further development of the education system is still unclear at the time of publication of the study due to the ongoing military dictatorship in Myanmar.
